Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 28, 2026

FocusGoal (the "App") is a service provided by FreEase, Inc. ("we" or "us"). We deeply respect our users' privacy and are committed to protecting personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled in the App (iOS and Android versions) and on the related website (together, the "Service"). This policy has been prepared to comply with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Apple App Store Review Guidelines, and the Google Play Developer Program Policies (User Data policy / Data safety).

The App requires no account registration or sign-in, and does not collect or retain personal information such as email addresses, names, dates of birth, postal addresses, or phone numbers. Data entered in the App is, as a rule, stored only on your device. Certain analytics and billing data is sent to third-party services (Mixpanel, RevenueCat, Apple/Google) for the purposes of improving the Service and managing purchases. This policy governs how that data is handled on either operating system (iOS or Android) on which you use the App.

1. Definition of Personal Information

In this Privacy Policy, "personal information" means personal information as defined in Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information: information about a living individual that can identify that specific individual by name, date of birth, or other descriptions.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information stored on your device

To provide the Service, the App stores the following information in on-device storage. On iOS this is UserDefaults and App Group storage; on Android it is app-private local storage such as SharedPreferences or Jetpack DataStore. In both cases the OS sandbox protects the data from other apps. This information is not transmitted to any external server.

2.2 Analytics data (Mixpanel)

The App uses the analytics service Mixpanel to improve the quality of the Service and the user experience.

  • Progress through the initial setup (onboarding) and time spent on each screen
  • A randomly generated session ID (an anonymous identifier that does not identify an individual)

This data contains no personally identifying information such as names or email addresses. Mixpanel's privacy policy is available here.

2.3 Information we do not collect

The App never collects any of the following.

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Date of birth
  • Postal address
  • Phone number
  • Credit card information
  • Location data
  • Device data such as contacts or photos

3. Tracking and Advertising Identifiers (IDFA / AAID)

The App may access the advertising identifier provided by the operating system in order to analyze app usage and improve the Service. It is not used for cross-app or cross-site targeted advertising.

3.1 iOS (IDFA / AppTrackingTransparency)

On iOS, the App may request tracking permission through Apple's AppTrackingTransparency (ATT) framework.

  • Purpose: Used to improve the accuracy of Mixpanel analytics data for the purpose of analyzing app usage and improving the Service.
  • Your choice: Granting tracking permission is entirely optional. All features of the App remain available if you decline.
  • How to change it: You can change the permission at any time under iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.

3.2 Android (Advertising ID / AAID)

On Android, the App may access the Advertising ID (AAID) provided by Google Play services. Use of the AAID complies with the Google Play Developer Program Policies.

  • Purpose: Used to improve the accuracy of Mixpanel analytics data for the purpose of analyzing app usage and improving the Service. The AAID is never combined with other persistent device identifiers (IMEI, hardware serial number, SSAID, etc.).
  • Your choice: Use of the Advertising ID is entirely optional. All features of the App remain available if you opt out.
  • How to change it: You can change this at any time by selecting "Delete advertising ID" or "Opt out of Ads Personalization" under Settings > Google > All services > Ads on your Android device.

4. Purposes of Use

We use the information we collect for the following purposes.

  • Providing the App's features (goal management, screen time management, etc.)
  • Personalizing the user experience
  • Controlling first-run screens and tutorials within the App
  • Verifying purchase status and managing subscriptions
  • Improving the quality of the Service and the UX (analytics)
  • Detecting and fixing defects

5. OS Permissions and APIs Used by Screen Time Features

To provide screen time insights and app blocking, the App uses permissions and APIs provided by each operating system. All information obtained through these permissions is processed solely on your device and is never sent to an external server.

5.1 iOS (Apple Screen Time API)

The iOS version uses Apple's Screen Time API (Family Controls / DeviceActivity / ManagedSettings). The following information is processed on-device through these APIs.

  • FamilyActivitySelection: Opaque tokens for apps, categories, and web domains. Specific app names and URLs are never obtained.
  • Usage data: Aggregated data such as usage time and launch counts. Processed only on the device.
  • Authorization status: Whether Family Controls has been authorized. It is used only when you grant permission, and permission can be revoked at any time from the Settings app.

Apple's Screen Time API is designed with privacy in mind: by design, developers cannot obtain specific app names or website URLs.

5.2 Android (Usage access and related permissions)

On Android, the App requests — with your explicit consent — those of the following permissions that are required for the features it provides, in order to deliver screen time insights and app blocking. Some of these are classified by Android as "Special app access," and you can revoke them at any time from your device settings even after granting them.

  • Usage access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS): Used to obtain aggregated data such as app usage time and launch counts on the device. This permission is used only for on-device screen time insights and blocking decisions, and the data obtained is processed only on the device. You can revoke it at any time under Settings > Apps > Special app access > Usage access.
  • Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): Used to display the blocking screen as an overlay when a blocked app is launched. You can revoke it at any time under Settings > Apps > Special app access > Display over other apps.
  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used for goal reminders and usage-time notifications. You can change this at any time under Settings > Apps > FocusGoal > Notifications.
  • Accessibility service (BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE): Used solely to detect which app is currently running in the foreground, in order to implement blocking for the apps you designate. The accessibility service is never used to obtain personal information such as on-screen input, passwords, or interaction logs, nor to automate screen operations, transmit data to external servers, or serve advertising purposes. In accordance with the Google Play Developer Policy, this feature is limited to directly supporting the user experience (assisting the focus features). You can revoke the permission at any time under Settings > Accessibility > FocusGoal on your device.
  • QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES (list of installed apps): Used solely to display the list of apps installed on the device (package name, app name, and icon) so that you can choose which apps the blocking and usage-visualization features apply to. In accordance with the Google Play Developer Policy, the App declares and uses this permission for a "device search / accessibility / parental control" use case that requires detecting other apps running on the device. The resulting app list is processed only on the device and is never sent to an external server.

If you decline or revoke any of the permissions above, the corresponding features (usage insights, blocking, etc.) will be limited, but all other features remain available.

6. Where Data Is Stored and for How Long

  • On-device data: Stored in UserDefaults and App Group storage. Deleting the App removes all on-device data.
  • Analytics data (Mixpanel): Transmitted to and stored on Mixpanel's servers, and managed in accordance with Mixpanel's data retention policy.
  • Billing data (RevenueCat): Stored on RevenueCat's servers and managed in accordance with RevenueCat's data retention policy.
  • Sharing with other apps: Shared only with extensions inside the App Group (widgets, etc.). We do not share data with third-party apps.

7. Disclosure to Third Parties

The App uses the following third-party services. The data described for each service is transmitted to it.

7.1 Mixpanel (analytics)

We use Mixpanel to analyze how the initial setup is used, in order to improve the quality of the Service. See Section 2.2 for details of the data transmitted. No personally identifying information is sent.

Mixpanel Privacy Policy: https://mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy/

7.2 RevenueCat (purchase management)

We use RevenueCat for in-app purchases and subscription management. RevenueCat processes the following information.

  • Purchase history and subscription status
  • App User ID (an anonymous device-based ID)

RevenueCat Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/

7.3 Apple (purchases on iOS)

In-app purchases on iOS are processed through Apple's App Store / StoreKit. Payment information such as credit card numbers is managed by Apple and is never obtained by the App.

Apple Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

7.4 Google (purchases on Android / Google Play Billing)

In-app purchases on Android are processed through Google Play Billing (the Google Play Store). Payment information such as credit card numbers is managed by Google and is never obtained by the App. To verify purchases and process refunds, purchase tokens and purchase states from Google Play are relayed to the App via RevenueCat.

Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

7.5 Disclosure required by law

We may provide information without your consent where required by law, where necessary to protect the life, body, or property of a person, where particularly necessary to improve public health or promote the sound upbringing of children, or where cooperation with a national agency or similar body is required.

8. Your Rights

You have the following rights with respect to your data.

  • Deleting data (on-device): Deleting (uninstalling) the App from your device removes all data stored on the device.
  • Deleting data (third-party services): If you wish to have data stored in Mixpanel or RevenueCat deleted, contact us through Settings > Contact us in the App, or at the contact email address below (m.takahashi@fre-ease.com). 11. Use of Cookies

The App does not use cookies. This website may use cookies for access analytics. You can refuse to accept cookies through your browser settings.

12. Use by Children

The App is not directed at children under 16, and is not part of Google Play's "Designed for Families" program or Apple's "Made for Kids" category. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. In the United States, in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child, we will promptly delete that data. The App's screen time management features use Apple's Family Controls framework on iOS and the device's usage access permission on Android, both of which require the user's own authorization. If a child uses the App, a parent or guardian should supervise that use appropriately.

13. Data Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, and leakage. On-device data is protected by the iOS sandbox and data protection features on iOS, and by the app sandbox together with encryption mechanisms such as the Android Keystore / EncryptedSharedPreferences where appropriate on Android. All communication with third-party services (Mixpanel, RevenueCat, Apple, Google) is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS. However, no communication over the internet or storage of electronic data can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be changed without prior notice in response to changes in law or improvements to the App. The revised Privacy Policy takes effect when it is published on this page. If there is a material change, we will provide notice within the App or on this website.
